The Doctor takes Rose on her first voyage through time, to the year Five Billion. The Sun is about to swallow the Earth. But amongst the aliens gathering to watch, a murderer is at work.

When the Doctor takes Rose to the year 5 billion to see the end of the world, she can't believe her eyes. When the National Trust can't afford to keep planet Earth safe, platform 1, a viewing station, orbits Earth. On board are a number of different aliens from tree people to the face of Boe.

At first the Doctor shows Rose around. She finds the people on board the station a bit weird though. Well woudn't you if you saw an alien? They all exchange gifts, the Doctors being air from his lungs.

Strange men with claws give everyone metal eggs. These metal eggs then hatch into spider things. The spiders go around causing havoc. The story leaves the entire station vulnerable to the expansion of the sun. The metal claw people are actually phonies. The last human- cassandra,s is discovered as the culprit and teleports off the station. But of course the Doctor is an expert at everything, including teleports and manages to get her back. Eventually she explodes and the doctor saves the day (again).
